This is the wine from the vineyard which started it all for Telmo and Pablo in Sierra de Gredos in 1999 and inspired the direction of Compañía de Vinos. It is the most important vineyard in the Cebreros appellation and one of the great single-vineyards of Spain. Arrebatacapas is a steep, south-facing 2.1ha slope at an elevation of 1050m -1200m, with garnacha vines planted in 1953, surrounded by juniper, rosemary, and lavender. Pegaso Arrebatacapas perfectly combines power and complexity with the freshness and balance of garnacha grown on red slate soils. The farming at Pegaso is certified organic, and the wines are made with low intervention and minimal sulfur at bottling.
Vintage – 2016 was an excellent, cooler year in Gredos, producing well-balanced wines of great aromatic intensity, well-developed fruit character, and structure for development in bottle. 2016 Pegaso Arrebatacapas perfectly combines the power and ripeness of the vintage, with the freshness and balance of garnacha grown on red slate soils. The color is vibrant ruby; the nose is explosively floral and herbaceous, with excellent freshness from its nebbiolo-like acidity and grippy tannins. The harvest began in mid-September, offering a balanced vintage with incredible potential for further development.
Vinification – Following a manual harvest, the grapes are partially destemmed, and the wine is fermented with indigenous yeasts, with a long maceration period. The wine then ages for one year in 600L oak barrels.
