The upper part of the Frion vineyard, Haute Frion, is defined by its Portlandian limestone soils. The cuvée L’Egarée attains aromatic balance from its equal blend of pinot noir and chardonnay, further enhanced by aging in delicately-toasted oak barrels. The profile is both lithe and intense; an approachable and broad palate of coriander, vanilla, and the delicate textured notes imparted by the barrel aging.
Vinification
Grapes are manually harvested and gently pressed in a vertical Coquard press. Only the heart, or the cœur de cuvée, of the first pressing is utilized. The grapes are fermentated spontaneously with native yeasts in stainless steel, including MLF. After secondary fermentation in bottle, the wine ages on its lees for at least 3-5 years before disgorgement, and is bottled non-dosage (brut nature), unfiltered and without cold-stabilization.
