Domaine Chéreau Carré occupies one of the most privileged positions in the Loire-Atlantique department of France, in the heart of the Muscadet Sèvre-et-Maine appellation, directly at the confluence of the two rivers. This family-owned winery has been an innovator since the 1960s by focusing on the qualitative advancement of the Muscadet Sèvre-et-Maine appellation through their exploration of their numerous single vineyards.
Known for their thorough understanding of Muscadet’s signature melon de bourgogne grape and Muscadet’s complex terroirs, father & daughter winemaking team Bernard and Louise Chéreau created the Mythes & Légendes series to explore the other native grapes of the Western Loire Valley. Each variety is represented by a different mythical being. Pomone, the Roman deity of fruits, is a coy nymph who is known to favor well-manicured gardens (like those of Château Chasseloir) over untamed nature. The Chéreaus chose her to represent Sauvignon Blanc, as the variety is highly sensitive to its environment but thrives when it is cared for with a delicate and intentional touch. Pomone is made in a fresh, light, zesty, and crisp aperitif style, ideally suited to the region’s famous seafood.
