Granja Remelluri Gran Reserva 2011
The Gran Reserva is made only in the best years, in very small quantities. The grapes for this wine are carefully sourced from the oldest, high-altitude plots surrounding the winery.
Vinification The wine was fermented with indigenous yeasts in small wooden tubs. It was then aged for 24 months in all French oak: 1 to 5 year old barrels (225L, 400L, and 500L) and foudres ranging from 1,200L to 2,000L.
Tasting Notes Polished and regal, the greatness of the vintage is evident from beginning to end in this wine. Aromatic with dark fruit, underlined by garrigue and minerality lurking in the depths. This wine is Powerful and structured, yet graceful and never overworked; comparisons are made with 1996 and 2001 Barolo. Still primary, yet undeniably drinkable, this vintage stands as one of the great, historic Remelluri wines.
