Lindes de Remelluri is a groundbreaking pair of wines dedicated to expressing the attributes of two of Rioja’s most distinctive wine villages: Labastida and San Vicente de la Sonsierra. Viñedos de Labastida is a selection of 12.78ha divided between eight growers and 28 small plots, which express the peculiarities of this municipality, the birthplace of many of the most important wines in the history of Rioja. The vineyards at altitudes from 450m to 780m offer an honest and clear representation of the terroir of the Labastida village wines. Labastida always has a later harvest due to elevation and offers an expressive and aromatic expression of tempranillo. The cooler, rockier, and higher elevation sites here produce a wine lower in alcohol but higher in acidity and tannins than that of neighboring San Vicente de la Sonsierra.
Vintage – In 2016, Rioja gave abundant, healthy fruit so the expert work in the vineyard by Remelluri’s team was essential to the high quality obtained. Winter was one of the mildest of the decade, and spring was rainy, replenishing underground water reserves. Despite the temperate winter, budding came later than usual with an exceptional fruit set. The 2016 is an outstanding, fine vintage for Lindes, velvety-textured with very fine tannins. It has restrained ripeness, integrated alcohol, charming balance, and an open and complex expression on the nose.
Vinification – Fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel and aged 12 months in barrels of various sizes and ages.
