Chéreau Carré 2014 Harvest
The vines started budding in March this year due to a warm month. This initially gave the impression of a precocious vintage, but cool temperatures in May and June brought things back to a more normal schedule. Flowering started on June 10th. July was hot and dry. August was quite rainy, but compensation came in the form of a glorious September, with perfect weather at the most crucial time. Given the favorable conditions, at Chéreau Carré they took their time harvesting, waiting for optimal maturity.
Château l’Oiselinière de la Ramée was harvested on September 15th and 16th, Le Clos de l'Oiselinière on September 17th, 18th, and 19th, and Compte Leloup de Chasseloir on September 22nd and 23rd.
There were very few diseases this year, so the grapes came in perfectly healthy. Alcohol levels will be around 12%. Given the excellent ripeness, there seems no doubt that 2014 will be an exceptionally good vintage.
Compte Leloup de Chasseloir and Le Clos de l'Oiselinière are not made every year, but the quality of the grapes is such that this year both will be made.
