Luberri 2013 Harvest
This was a vintage that required some real farming skills. Winter and spring were extremely rainy, then summer was hot. Constant vigilance was required to keep diseases at bay, particularly fungal ones. Light preventative treatments helped keep the fruit healthy, but a moment’s inattention could have been disastrous.
Bud break occurred late, at the end of April, and flowering was irregular, due to colder than normal temperatures and rain. But a warm summer meant full ripening, and in the end the grapes were harvested under near perfect sanitary conditions, with great maturity and a very balanced pH.
Harvest occurred between the 7th and 17th of October, and 320,000 kg of grapes were picked, a little bit less than normal. The first tastings of the fermented juice are showing that this will be a very good vintage overall.
