Joan d'Anguera L'Hostal 2012
The wine is made from a selection of the Anguera family’s oldest parcels of Carignan, known locally as Carinyena. This once a forgotten grape variety that always survived the hot summers of the region, this grape when treated to a long ageing regime delivers powerful results.
Vinification Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in concrete vats using indigenous yeasts. Aged for 36 months in old French oak barrels then 12 months in bottle. Naturally cold stabilized by winter’s chill and bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Tasting Notes Very complex evolution of aromas relating to the garrigue of Montsant but also combining an evolved element. The palate is refined with a carry-over of the herbal overtones framed by an attractive fruit component. A delicious wine to watch evolve over time.
